Westminster Presbyterian ChurchNew ChurchROCKFORD, ILLINOISUsing traditional forms, we designed a contemporary worship environment on a 40-acre, wooded site. Based on the medieval village plan, the sanctuary is highest and central to the other ministries flanking it to form a courtyard for an amphitheater, picnic pavilion and playgrounds. The design features lots of glass, lighting and open spaces. But it also looks like a church -- with steeple, cross and stained-glass windows from the original building. AIA/NI Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture. |

Our Savior Lutheran ChurchSanctuary, Gym & Kitchen AdditionROCKFORD, ILLINOISWe designed a new 12,000 SF, 800-seat worship center, plus a gymnasium with kitchen and youth lounge. The church is located on a small lot in a residential neighborhood, so we designed roof forms and brick walls to be compatible with surrounding homes. The arena seating pattern embraces three sides of the Chancel to minimize the church's length and width -- and positions the congregation closer to liturgical celebrations and music. AIA/NI Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture. |

Second Congregational ChurchRenovation to Fire-Devastated StructureROCKFORD, ILLINOISWe redesigned this landmark church building after a devastating fire. Members wanted to preserve its historic, 1890s beauty. The state-of-the-art facility was provided within available insurance funding. An economical new roof framing system matches the original Sanctuary roof lines, using existing bearing walls, column location and available materials. A simple steel truss and beam provided a platform for workmen to job fabricate the intricate lines of the original roof and ceiling. Chicago Lighting Institute Merit Award for Lighting Excellence.
